Waking up was a different story! Generally speaking, you make up from anesthesia, how you went down. So since Max fought it the last second, he woke up fighting. He was out of control. He immediately started ripping things off of him and screaming. From the second he woke up, he kept asking for "Mommy's car." He wasn't in any pain, he was just a little disoriented, agitated and hysterical from the meds. I was actually sore the next day from trying to keep his thrashing body on the bed or my lap. Wow, he is strong. Since he did so well during the procedure, his hysterics earned us a fast pass out of the recovery room. It obvious that he wasn't going to calm down while we were still in the hospital, so they busted us out. We were home three hours after we arrived at the hospital. Unheard of. And totally, completely awesome.
His doctor said that everything LOOKED fine but we still haven't gotten any biopsy results yet. We are hoping everything is negative and that this reflux isn't caused by something bigger like celiac disease or some other things they tested for...
When we got home, Max insisted on playing outside... it wasn't exactly a good idea since he hadn't even stood up since his procedure, but he wouldn't take no for an answer. It only lasted a couple minutes because he soon realized that he couldn't walk straight... It was a little funny. He looked like a little drunkard walking around in mismatched pjs (because he definitely had an opinion on the matter when we got dressed at the hospital), crazy hair, dopey droopy eyes and stumbling all around. We all cuddled on the couch and by lunchtime he was back to his regular self.
Dave and I also made it through relatively scar-free. We were so focused on keeping things ok for Max, that it didn't give us much time to think about anything else. His procedure was so fast that we didn't have time to flashback. The waiting room was SO different than when we were with Ellie. There were other people and TVs on, comfy rocking chairs; a whole different feeling. And I can't even begin to explain how thankful I am for that. Like I've said many times, the anticipation is almost always worse. I am so happy it's over.
